Preserving The Kakamega Forest, Where Conservation Meets Community
Partner with us to safeguard Kenya’s unique rainforest and support sustainable growth for those who call it home.
About Us
Our Mission
Our mission is to preserve, protect, and restore Kakamega Forest while promoting sustainable livelihoods for the people who live in and around this vital ecosystem. We believe in community-led conservation, education, and partnership to ensure that this irreplaceable habitat endures for generations.
Our Impact
Our mission drives reforestation and community stewardship in Kakamega Forest. In 2024, we planted 9,500 seedlings across 20 acres, adding to our impact from previous years of 112,000 trees over 140 acres. Thirteen schools joined this year's effort, inspiring young environmental stewards as we work to restore and protect this vital ecosystem for future generations.
Local Partnership, Global Perspective
KFHF is dedicated to protecting the Kakamega Forest, Kenya’s last remnant of a unique tropical rainforest. Our approach is rooted in local partnerships and driven by a global perspective on conservation. Through our work, we’re not only preserving biodiversity but also empowering communities to become active stewards of their land.
Our Partners
KFHF collaborates with local leaders, conservation experts, and international organizations. Together, we amplify our reach and impact, ensuring the forest’s protection remains a priority on both a local and global scale.

The heartfelt notes you see here were written by the schoolchildren who are beneficiaries of the Kakamega Forest Heritage Foundation’s efforts in community empowerment. To protect their privacy, we have removed their names and will not be sharing their photos. These voices reflect their genuine experiences and appreciation for the work we’re doing together to preserve Kakamega Forest.

I am a great benefactor of this Children’s home. It has changed me, it has transformed me, it has given me hope in life and a reason to slime. Mama Jane, as my sister said, you are special. You are our brave mama, you are our strength. Keep on, mama, don’t give up (because that is not who you are). Kakamega Forest Heritage, you are in our hearts. You have touched us and blessed us. May it never be the same with you. Thank you for touching Ushindi. We love you.
