Event Announcement · Earth Day 2026
📅 25th April 2026 · 🕖 7:00 AM · 📍 Solyo Sports Ground · 🚶 10 Kilometres
This April 25th, the Kakamega Forest Heritage Foundation invites you to lace up your walking shoes and stand — stride by stride — for Kenya’s last tropical rainforest.
Every year, Earth Day renews a global conversation about the natural world we share and the urgent responsibility we carry toward it. For KFHF, it is more than a date on a calendar — it is a call to action rooted in the forest floor itself. This year, we are channeling that call into movement: a 10KM Fundraising Walk through the heart of Kakamega country.
Kakamega Forest is one of East Africa’s most biologically irreplaceable landscapes — home to rare primates, hundreds of bird species, medicinal plants, and communities whose lives and livelihoods are woven into its canopy. Yet decades of encroachment, illegal logging, and climate pressure continue to chip away at its edges. The work of protecting what remains is daily, determined, and dependent on community support.
“Every kilometre you walk is a declaration — that this forest matters, that this heritage belongs to all of us, and that we will not let it disappear without a fight.”

What to Expect on the Day of the Fundraising Walk
Participants will gather at Solyo Sports Ground from 7:00 AM on Saturday, 25th April 2026. The 10KM route is designed to be inclusive and accessible — whether you are a seasoned runner, a casual walker, or a family with young children. This is a community celebration as much as a fundraiser, and the atmosphere will reflect that.
Expect a morning filled with camaraderie, the crisp air of the western highlands, and the shared energy of people who care deeply about the land they call home. KFHF team members and volunteers will be on-route and at the finish line to cheer you on.

Why Your Participation In This Earth Day Event Matters
The registration fee of KES 1,000 goes directly toward KFHF’s conservation and community programmes — from forest monitoring and reforestation efforts to environmental education for schools and households along the forest boundary. When you register, you are not just joining a walk. You are investing in a living ecosystem.
We also encourage participants to bring friends, neighbours, and colleagues. Conservation is, above all, a collective act. The more feet on the ground on April 25th, the louder the message: Kakamega Forest is worth protecting.

My Heritage — My Life
KFHF’s founding motto is not merely a slogan. It captures the inseparable bond between Kakamega’s people and their forest — a relationship built over generations of shared resource, shared memory, and shared identity. The Earth Day Walk is a living expression of that bond.
We look forward to walking alongside you. See you at Solyo Sports Ground on the 25th.
