Chairman

Dr. Murila is a self-driven, hardworking, honest orthopedic surgeon. He brings to the team his exemplary leadership skills, and ability to relate to different types of people & situations.  He has a passion for bringing healthcare to be affordable to the masses.  He is committed to the foundation’s objectives and makes every effort to bring on board his colleagues in the medical sector.

Prof. Miriam K. Were

Prof. Miriam K. Were

Board Member

Prof. Were is a widely published medical doctor of international acclaim. She is a recipient of multiple honors for her continued efforts and contribution to public health and supporting the needs of disadvantaged people. Most recently, she has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize (2022). She is committed to promoting healthy guardians of the Kakamega forest ecosystem through her extensive interactions.

Dr. Fred N. Ojiambo

Dr. Fred N. Ojiambo

Board Member

Dr. Fred Ojiambo is the Chairman of the Senior Counsel Bar in Kenya. He has continuously been ranked in band 1 as a leading litigation practitioner and arbitrator. His acumen for cracking complex cases is unmatched and he continues to be instructed in leading complex commercial litigation and arbitration. His commitment to the restoration efforts of the forest ecosystem includes influencing policy formation and implementation.

Dr. Beatrice Khayota

Dr. Beatrice Khayota

Board Member

Dr. Beatrice Khayota is a Principal Research Scientist at the National Museums of Kenya (NMK). She holds a PhD and MSc in Botany and a MSc in International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). Her decades of experience and knowledge of the flora and fauna of Kenya are invaluable resources in all our efforts to conserve and restore the Kakamega Forest Ecosystem.

Mr. Michael Sullivan

Board Member

Mr. Michael Sullivan K.C. O.G.W is a leading King’s Counsel with a substantial international commercial and state litigation and arbitration practice. He has been honored by the award of the Order of the Grand Warrior in recognition of his outstanding service rendered to Kenya. He is committed to the conservation and restoration of the Kakamega Rain Forest and to the education and empowerment of the local communities to assist them in the conservation of the forest.

Mr. George M. Murila

Chief Executive Officer

Mr. George Murila is an accomplished leader in the corporate world. He has previously worked for Caltex Kenya for over 2 decades, turning around their market share by double digits from 9% to 25%. He is a respected community leader within the Kakamega Forest Ecosystem, and the wider Kakamega county.

Get Involved

Every year, we hold a series of events to keep the message of conservation of the forest at the top of the mind of everyone in the region, and in the country. These include charitable donations to local communities, health/medical camps, nature walks, tree planting camps, and the climax, the Kakamega forest marathon.
